THE FILMS FROM SWEDEN’S MOST NOTORIOUS VIDEO COMPANY
ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST SPECIAL EDITION * DIGITALLY RESTORED
During the barbaric heyday of film censorship in the early 1980s, Video Invest was Sweden’s boldest and most notorious video distributor. Their films were far more outrageous than anyone else’s, prompting police raids on video shops across Sweden. The 26 confiscated VHS titles were destroyed, and the company went bankrupt. Now the films are back! In their original uncut versions, digitally restored.
When a man is caught mutilating corpses in a New York morgue, a group of researchers becomes intrigued. The trail leads them to a remote, exotic island, where they encounter not only cannibals, but also a doctor who brings the dead back to life and will let nothing stand in his way. His army of zombies will see to that!
Zombie Holocaust is an uncompromising blend of horror, jungle adventure, cannibals and zombies. The film was shot simultaneously with Lucio Fulci’s Zombie Flesh Eaters, so some sets and structures appear in both films.
The film is directed by Marino Girolami, father of the considerably better-known fellow director Enzo G. Castellari (the G stands for Girolami). The leading roles are played by Ian McCulloch and Alexandra Delli Colli, known respectively for the notorious Video Invest releases Zombie Flesh Eaters and The New York Ripper.
