THE FILMS FROM SWEDEN’S MOST NOTORIOUS VIDEO COMPANY
ZOMBIE FLESH EATERS SPECIAL EDITION * DIGITALLY RESTORED
During the barbaric heyday of film censorship in the early 1980s, Video Invest was Sweden’s boldest and most notorious video distributor. Their films were far more outrageous than anyone else’s, prompting police raids on video shops across Sweden. The 26 confiscated VHS titles were destroyed, and the company went bankrupt. Now the films are back! In their original uncut versions, digitally restored.
After a boat drifts into New York Harbour with its crew wiped out by a terrifying infection, a group sets off for the Caribbean to discover the cause. There, they encounter rotting corpses rising from the earth in an escalating nightmare where the end of civilisation seems inevitable.
Legendary director Lucio Fulci’s film delivers some of horror cinema’s most iconic scenes. These include the underwater fight between a zombie and a shark, filmed with a real, deadly shark, and the notorious “wooden splinter through the eye” sequence, presented here completely uncut, of course! Even the hardened team at Video Invest felt compelled to shorten it. Despite this, the film was ruled illegal in around ten court cases in Sweden.
With its sweltering atmosphere, decaying latex masks and Fabio Frizzi’s heavy, pulsating score, the film cemented Fulci’s signature style and became a milestone in the zombie genre.
