Actor Reine is forced to take a job as a recreation leader at Kumla Prison, with important tasks such as being responsible for the billiard ball locker! But Reine wants so much more. He always believes the best in people and manages to persuade the management to let him put on a play with the prisoners. The interest from the tough guys in the bunker is meager, but finally five of them decide to devote themselves to a little theater for a higher goal – the chance to escape!

The funny, touching and heartwarming WAY OUT is inspired by real events and, despite its young age, is already a classic, loved by many. It is also unique because it has been newly filmed abroad. In 2020, the French version, Waiting for Freedom, had its theatrical premiere both in its homeland and in Sweden. At the insistent request of many, WAY OUT is now back on DVD after a 15-year absence.
