1969 was Tiny Tim one of America's most famous people. Only the moon landing had more television viewers than his wedding. Then everything went downhill. With the help of his own diaries, family and friends, the story of how America's perhaps craziest artist also became the greatest!
The story of Herbert Khaury, who didn't feel like he fit in anywhere, but as his alter ego Tiny Tim reached a star status like no other. Whose rise to fame is like a fairy tale, but which also became his downfall. He began his career by performing at various freak shows, but around 1968 he became one of America's absolute biggest artists with the hit "Tip toe through the tulips". Regardless of whether he was seen as a genius or a "freak", he leaves no one indifferent. When he got married live on TV on The Carson Show, this was seen by over 45 million Americans, and his strange personality has been raised to the skies by everything from Bob Dylan, to Marilyn Manson and Lady Gaga. Everyone believed and hoped that Tiny Tim's character would last, but one man ruined these plans: himself.
Johan von Sydow ( The Tale of Jussi , It's me who's a genius! and SVT Kobra) have created a unique portrait of a character without equal, which also functions as a psychological thriller in the search for the difference between genius and madness. A music-packed documentary with excerpts from Tiny Tim's own diary, appropriately read by none other than "Weird Al" Yankovic. The film is partly inspired by the book "Eternal Troubadour: The improbable life of Tiny Tim", and is built up of archive material with Tiny Tim, interviews with colleagues and family members and ambitious animated elements.
“ My greatest unfulfilled ambition is to be one of the astronauts
or even the first singer on the Moon.
But most of all, I'd love to see Christ come back to crush the spirit
of hate and make men put down their guns.
I'd also like just one more hit single. "
