After taking a break from dog food commercials, filmmaker Marty DiBergi follows his favorite band on their US tour – British band Spinal Tap, who boast that they are the loudest band in the world. To him, they reveal the secret behind their success, namely amplifiers where the volume goes to 11 instead of 10. When asked if there is any real difference: “Well, that’s 1 more, right?” Unfortunately, the band seems to have lost as many fans as brain cells. The tour is hit by disaster after disaster. They sink so low that they end up as the band for a puppet show. The end seems near… When THIS IS SPINAL TAP came out in 1984, it barely made a dent. But after a couple of years, more and more people started talking about that “fake documentary” that played with all the rock band clichés and the fiasco turned into a success. Today, the film is a huge cult favorite that fans watch over and over again and know all the lines from.
