When THEY LIVE premiered in 1988, audiences were disappointed, but since then its popularity has reached new heights. Perhaps the time was not yet ripe for this clever combination of sci-fi, action and social satire where aliens try to enslave humanity under the yoke of unbridled capitalism? “With THEY LIVE, I give the finger to Reagan,” said Carpenter at the time. But with its terrifying prediction of a world infected with increasing injustice, spy drones and media manipulation, it is even more relevant today. The film is now being released on Blu-ray for the first time, digitally restored in 4k with superior sound and picture quality.
