IN WESTERN THERE IS NOTHING MORE DANGEROUS THAN BEING A BLACK MAN AND A RED WOMAN ON WHITE LAND
A ROCKY WESTERN BY ALF KJELLIN
"BRILLIANT DIRECTION, SCREENPLAY AND ACTING" Variety
The American Revolutionary War is over and the wounded soldiers return to their homes. One of them is Benji, who is now a free man after a life as a slave. His former owner welcomes him with open arms and makes him his companion on the ranch. But anger is brewing in the neighborhood. Many are those who do not see the friendship between the black and white cowboy with kind eyes. When Benji also marries an Indian woman, a violent outburst is inevitable.
We all remember the duel between Alf Kjellin's student and Stig Järrel's sadistic teacher in Hets, which torpedoed Kjellin onto the A-list. Hollywood also caught the eye of the star and roles in Alistair MacLean's blockbuster Polarstation Zebra Svarar ej followed. In parallel, Kjellin directed episodes of television series such as The Cartwright Brothers, Columbo and The Macahan Family. His second Hollywood film, THE McMASTERS , is a ruthless western written by Harold Jacob Smith (Oscar for The Chain) with names like Jack Palance (Oscar for City Slickers) and Burl Ives (Oscar for The Men of the Wild) in the cast.
