"CRAVE'S MASTERPIECE HAS UNDOUBTEDLY INFLUENCED THE ENTIRE HORROR GENRE" Movieweb
The Carter family is traveling through the Yucca Desert with their large caravan when their car collapses. The area seems completely deserted, but they are not alone. Since ancient times, a race of cannibals has lived here and when they attack the family, it is in the most brutal ways imaginable. For the survivors, there is now only one way to survive. To embrace their own, most primitive violent instincts and lower themselves to the barbaric level of their enemy...
THE HILLS HAVE EYES , like Wes Craven's own The Last House on the Left and The Chainsaw Massacre, was a groundbreaking 70s film, with more realistic and raw violence than had been seen before. The small indie film was a huge success in the US cinemas and made fifty times its budget. Michael Berryman became a major horror icon thanks to his special appearance, although most people probably recognize him best from One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Dee Wallace also made a name for herself in the horror genre with Cujo, The Howling and Critters. And of course she played the mother in ET.
