THE FILMS FROM SWEDEN’S MOST NOTORIOUS VIDEO COMPANY
THE BURNING SPECIAL EDITION * DIGITALLY RESTORED
During the barbaric heyday of film censorship in the early 1980s, Video Invest was Sweden’s boldest and most notorious video distributor. Their films were far more outrageous than anyone else’s, prompting police raids on video shops across Sweden. The 26 confiscated VHS titles were destroyed, and the company went bankrupt. Now the films are back! In their original uncut versions, digitally restored.
A disfigured madman armed with hedge shears attacks a summer camp in one of the most notorious slasher films of all time. Unsurprisingly, the film was banned outright from cinemas in Sweden, as well as in the United Kingdom, Germany, Norway, Finland and Iceland.
Among the young cast are three newcomers who would go on to enjoy stellar careers: Jason Alexander (George in Seinfeld), Holly Hunter (Oscar winner for The Piano) and Fisher Stevens (Short Circuit).
Tony Maylam (Split Second) directs, while makeup genius Tom Savini (Friday the 13th, Maniac) provides the spectacularly gruesome effects. But the most famous name behind the camera is the man who initiated the project and devised its story: Harvey Weinstein. This was the Oscar-winning sex offender’s very first film as a producer.
