THE FILMS FROM SWEDEN’S MOST NOTORIOUS VIDEO COMPANY
CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD SPECIAL EDITION * DIGITALLY RESTORED
During the barbaric heyday of film censorship in the early 1980s, Video Invest was Sweden’s boldest and most notorious video distributor. Their films were far more outrageous than anyone else’s, prompting police raids on video shops across Sweden. The 26 confiscated VHS titles were destroyed, and the company went bankrupt. Now the films are back! In their original uncut versions, digitally restored.
When a priest hangs himself from a tree in a cemetery, he commits an unforgivable mortal sin that opens the gates of hell, unleashing an army of the living dead. Unless the gateway is sealed, the entire world will be overrun by murderous zombies…
City of the Living Dead is notorious director Lucio Fulci’s cult classic, best described as a feverish nightmare. Its accomplished special effects and graphic violence remain shocking to this day. Even the hardened team at Video Invest felt compelled to cut the film, presented here completely uncensored.
The cast features a host of names familiar to horror fans: Catriona MacColl (The Beyond, The House by the Cemetery), Lektyr magazine model Janet Ågren from Landskrona (City of the Walking Dead), Christopher George (Pieces), Giovanni Lombardo Radice (Cannibal Ferox) and Michele Soavi (director of Dellamorte Dellamore).
