The ingenious screenplay by Anthony Shaffer is based on his own Tony-winning Broadway hit. He also wrote Hitchcock's Frenzy and the Agatha Christie hit Death on the Nile (1978 version). SLEUTH was the last film as director for four-time Oscar winner Joseph L. Mankiewicz (All About Eve, Cleopatra).
