Life is turned upside down for the quiet lumberjack Pepe, who loses his job, his home and his girlfriend in a few intense days. Despite these upheavals, he maintains his inner peace in an almost magical way. What is the secret behind his gentle way of dealing with his fate? Does he know something fundamental about existence that the rest of us have missed?

Poet Mikko Myllylahti, known for his screenplay for The Happiest Day in Olli Mäki's Life , brings us a charming and thought-provoking comedy with his directorial debut. The lead role in The happiest day in Olli Mäki's life was played by Jarkko Lahti who was awarded a Jussi (Finland's Finest Actor Award) for the performance. IN The Lumberjack's Tale He plays Pepe, who sticks to his hopeful outlook no matter what difficulties life throws at him. And there are many of them!

The Lumberjack's Tale offers equal parts surrealism à la Buñuel, a harsh Finnish attitude in the spirit of Kaurismäki and an existentialism taken from Kierkegaard. The beautiful nature photo signed Arsen Sarkisiants frames it all and reminds us of the smallness of man in the grand context. The Lumberjack's Tale is fun, confusing and wonderfully absurd.
