THE FILMS FROM SWEDEN’S MOST NOTORIOUS VIDEO COMPANY
SCHIZOID – THE SCISSOR KILLER SPECIAL EDITION * DIGITALLY RESTORED
During the barbaric heyday of film censorship in the early 1980s, Video Invest was Sweden’s boldest and most notorious video distributor. Their films were far more outrageous than anyone else’s, prompting police raids on video shops across Sweden. The 26 confiscated VHS titles were destroyed, and the company went bankrupt. Now the films are back! In their original uncut versions, digitally restored.
A Los Angeles therapist with her own newspaper column begins receiving sinister threatening letters. Meanwhile, women connected to her psychologist are being murdered with a pair of scissors. As more bodies are discovered, paranoia mounts. Anyone close to her could be the brutal killer.
Schizoid blends the urban paranoia thrillers of the 1970s with the early slasher era, making violence feel disturbingly close to everyday life. The film was released in Swedish cinemas under the title Saxmördaren, but was, of course, cut by the censors.
Producing duties were handled by Cannon duo Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus, shortly before their now-legendary company rose to prominence during the video boom with a flood of tits-and-ass comedies, barbarian adventures and action films starring Chuck Norris and Charles Bronson. The cast features cinema’s own “bad boy”, Klaus Kinski, alongside Donna Wilkes (Angel, Jaws 2), Craig Wasson (Body Double) and Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future).
