In the midst of New Year's Eve festivities, the world's largest ocean-going luxury cruise ship, the S/S Poseidon, is hit by a 30-meter-high giant wave. The ship capsizes and ends up upside down. Only a few people survive. Only by climbing to the top of the overturned ship can they reach rescue, but new death traps constantly appear and the water rises quickly...

Two-time Oscar winner Gene Hackman leads the star-studded ensemble in POSEIDON, which was the biggest hit in the US in 1972 with 55 million moviegoers. The producer was Irwin Allen, often called the “King of Disaster”, who was behind several other giants in the context such as The Skyscraper is on Fire !
