HISTORIC TRIPLE WINNER FOR BEST FILM AT ALL THREE BIGGEST AWARDS: Oscar, Golden Globe & Cannes Film Festival
"MASTERFUL! PUT THE SPECTATOR IN EXTASIS" Aftonbladet
In 1960, Orfeu Negro scored a unique hat-trick when it became the first film in history to win all three major film awards – the Palme d’Or in Cannes and both the Oscar and Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. Only two films have managed to repeat this fabulous feat since then. In addition, the film score was a smash hit and had the whole world dancing to the new bossa nova. In a brilliant way, director Marcel Camus places the mythological love couple Orpheus and Eurydice in the slums of Rio de Janeiro. He is the lover of life that all women adore, she is a shy country girl on the run from a murderous pursuer. Their destinies intertwine during a day of ecstatic carnival excitement where just about anything can happen – except the predictable.
Experience the music, be carried away by the rhythm, feel the heat and pain and let yourself be enchanted by one of the most beloved films in history!
