THE FILMS FROM SWEDEN’S MOST NOTORIOUS VIDEO COMPANY
EATEN ALIVE SPECIAL EDITION * DIGITALLY RESTORED
During the barbaric heyday of film censorship in the early 1980s, Video Invest was Sweden’s boldest and most notorious video distributor. Their films were far more outrageous than anyone else’s, prompting police raids on video shops across Sweden. The 26 confiscated VHS titles were destroyed, and the company went bankrupt. Now the films are back! In their original uncut versions, digitally restored.
The trail of a missing woman leads her sister and a group of adventurers deep into the South American jungle. There, a fanatical cult has established an isolated community ruled by a deranged leader who sacrifices all his enemies to a hungry cannibal tribe.
Eaten Alive is inspired by the shocking events surrounding Jim Jones’s bizarre Peoples Temple cult, based in Guyana in the late 1970s. It is directed by Umberto Lenzi, also “guilty” of the Video Invest titles Cannibal Ferox and Nightmare City.
The lead is played by Landskrona-born beauty Janet Ågren, who posed nude for Lektyr magazine and appeared in around fifty Italian films. The cast also includes familiar faces from Lenzi’s films: Robert Kerman, who had major roles in Cannibal Ferox and Cannibal Holocaust but is best known as adult film star Richard Bolla; Me Me Lai and Ivan Rassimov, both from Lenzi’s Man from Deep River; and Mel Ferrer (Nightmare City), once a major Hollywood star.
