DIGITALLY RESTORED SPECIAL EDITION
For many years, Gest has stared out over the Irish Sea with a furious desire for revenge in his black mind. Twenty years ago, the mighty Thor and his Viking warriors came to his home, set fire to the farm, took his sister captive, and slaughtered his parents before Gest's eyes. Now it is time for Gest to enter Icelandic soil. Time for justice. Time for Thor to dig his grave.
Colored by the cinematography of Sergio Leone and Akira Kurosawa, Hrafn Gunnlaugsson tells a furious revenge story with the weight of ancient, cruel moralizing fairy tales. A story that is portrayed more in images than in words, with Iceland's barren, magnificent and fate-filled nature in the background. The success at the cinema was unexpectedly great, largely thanks to the film feeling authentic. The Icelandic language also turned out to be perfect for such a hard-boiled film. Everywhere you could hear people reciting the line "thungur hnifur" (heavy knife).
