Mexico 1746. The small town of San Sebastian is under heavy attack by the Yaqui tribe, whose bloody attacks have caused the population to flee into the mountains. Father Joseph arrives here in the company of the notorious bandit Leon, whom he refuses to hand over to justice. The mission is to rebuild the town's church, but the priest is soon shot dead by a sniper and Leon is now mistaken for a priest himself. In order to manage to stay out of the way of the lawmen, he decides to play along in front of the villagers, who have never seen a priest like him before. Leon barely even knows how to make the sign of the cross, let alone how to shut up bloodthirsty Indians...
Quinn and Bronson are tougher than granite in this lavish adventure with a screenplay by James R. Webb, Oscar winner for The Wild West. The music is by the legendary Ennio Morricone, Oscar winner for The Hateful Eight .
