Super-sensual Essy Persson in one of the pioneering works of "Swedish sin", about a young, deeply religious nurse who discovers her sexuality. Sister Siv comes from a strict, Christian home and has a platonic relationship with her fiancé. The sexually unredeemed Siv gets a job in Copenhagen and is immediately seduced by a patient. She has erotic encounters with various men, but does not find true love. When she is then dominated by a stranger, she falls completely. But he shrugs his shoulders and leaves, without saying his name...
Debut director Mac Ahlberg was also in charge of photography in the film. Ahlberg made a number of erotic films in Sweden and Denmark, and later became a cinematographer in Hollywood, with films such as Re-Animator and The Hollywood Cop III.
I Am a Woman became an export success. The film is based on Siv Holm's much-talked about scandalous and best-selling novel.
