When Ichi the Killer was shown at the Stockholm Film Festival, large parts of the audience fled the theater, taken aback by the graphic violence. In Tokyo, poop bags were handed out to the audience. And in countries like Germany and Norway, it was banned completely.

The infamous Takashi Miike (Audition, 13 Assassins) has adapted Hideo Yamamoto's brutal manga series into a film, which begins when Yakuza boss Anjo disappears without a trace along with 300 million yen. As the severed limbs pile up, the hunt for him reaches its climax when Ichi enters the scene - an assassin so hideous that even the most brutal mobsters want to curl up in the fetal position in sheer terror.
