" THE BEST FILM IN HISTORY ABOUT WORLD WAR II " Aftonbladet, 2020

A RUTHLESS MASTERPIECE. ONE OF THE STRONGEST WAR FILMS EVER MADE ” Empire

"UNBEARABLELY STRONG. YOU ARE NOT THE SAME PERSON AFTER SEEING IT" Screenwriter Peter Birro in Expressen, 2010

When the Nazis invade the Belarusian part of the Soviet Union in 1943, 14-year-old peasant boy Florya eagerly enlists in the partisans. In his mind, he paints a picture of a time of heroism and glory, but instead he is thrown headlong into a nightmare world where he witnesses atrocities that defy description.

GO AND SEE is based largely on the horrific experiences of director Elem Klimov and co-writer Ales Adamovich during the war. The film is constantly on critics’ lists of the best films of all time, but was on the verge of never being released when the script was banned by Soviet censorship (it was not lifted until eight years later). With its iconic camerawork and sound design, Elem Klimov’s masterpiece “has inspired virtually every war film made in the last 35 years” (Slant Magazine).
