OPENING FILM – CANNES FESTIVAL 2022
A jaded film crew struggles to complete a blockbuster horror film set in a closed military facility. When filming is interrupted by a real zombie attack, the energetic director's stubborn instruction is: Keep the camera rolling!
Director Michel Hazanavicius is back with a splashy, mindless meta- and meta-meta-packed remake of Shinichiro Ueda's cult film One Cut of the Dead (released by Njutafilms on streaming and DVD in 2019). Final Cut elicited many laughs and spontaneous applause from the gala-dressed premiere audience in Cannes where the film opened the entire festival. We hope that the Swedish audience will also enjoy and laugh at the exploits of this unmatched film team in their pursuit of the perfect shot.
Hazanavicius has a long track record of successful comedies. The films about OSS 117 agent Hubert Bonisseur de La Bath, starring Jean Dujardin, paved the way for The Artist which won Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Costume Design and Best Original Score in 2012. In addition, the film won around 158 other awards around the world and was nominated for countless others.
As mentioned earlier, there are many meta levels in Final Cut . Hold on now! Bérénice Bejo, Oscar-nominated for her role in The Artist , is in reality married to Hazanavicius. The daughter in the film is played by the couple's real-life daughter Simone. However, the lead role and director of the zombie film-within-a-film is not related to Hazanavicius. Remi is played by Romain Duris ( Eiffel ), who will also appear in a new extravagant version of Alexandre Dumas' classic next year. The Three Musketeers .
