In the 1930s, the Australian government launched a program of action designed to control shark populations and secure popular beaches. What sounds noble in theory, protecting people from being eaten by sharks, has in practice caused immense damage to the marine environment and wildlife. The methods of catching nets and baiting hooks are blunt instruments that are unfortunately still used today, killing scores of endangered dolphins and turtles, as well as individuals from other red-listed species, every year. Envoy: Shark Cull shows the tragic reality behind the statistics and calls for action.
This powerful documentary is produced in collaboration with organizations such as Sea Shepherd, conservationists and divers Ocean Ramsey and Madison Stewart. Narrated by Eric Bana, known for films such as The Dry , Hanna , Munich and Finding Nemo .
