Life was a nightmare. Death was the grand awakening.
From the director to Irreversible
The director of the most infamous film of the 21st century is back with a work like no other: an emotionally wrenching and visually overwhelming nightmare journey through life, death and rebirth. The award-winning Enter the Void is a dark, yet colorful odyssey seen through the hallucinating eyes of its dying protagonist. In the neon-lit night of Tokyo, young drug dealer Oscar is shot. Were it not for his sister, the story would have ended there. But Oscar once swore he would never abandon her, and as his body dies, his soul begins a restless journey through the dirty backstreets of the big city and the dark corridors of memory, both more distorted by the minute.
Trivia:
Gaspar Noé is one of the most controversial directors of our time. He made his breakthrough with Alone Against All and a few years later made the chronologically reversed rape/revenge film Irreversible – as renowned for its original style as it is notorious for its uncompromising scenes of violence. For the script for Enter the Void, he received help from his Bronze Horse-awarded partner Lucile Hadzihalilovic – the director of Innocence.
