DIGITALLY RESTORED

ONE OF THE GREATEST CULT THRILLERS OF ALL TIME. FROM THE DIRECTOR OF BETTY BLUE.

"UNUSUALLY FASCINATING. YOU KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN" Dagens Nyheter

Young postman Jules loves opera more than anything else. Especially if the voice belongs to Cynthia Hawkins, the adorable great who stubbornly refuses to have her voice transferred to audio tape. To the chagrin of many, of course. So when Jules manages to make a secret recording of the diva's acclaimed Paris concert, he becomes the target of a pair of very threatening music pirates. And when the tape is then mistaken for a cassette containing important murder evidence, even the city's most notorious murderer sets out in search of the terrified postman...

When DIVA came out in 1981, it caused a sensation. No one had seen anything like it. This was the start of the French wave of visually spectacular films that came to be known as Cinéma du Look in the 1980s. Luc Besson and Leos Carax were two other prominent figures. Five years later, Beineix followed up his influential film with the blockbuster Betty Blue.
