91:an Karlsson, Åsa Nisse and Lille Fridolf – many are the lovable characters who jumped back and forth between the comic strip and the feature film during the 1940s and 1950s. Studio S presents another motley crowd of old men here. Like Elov Persson's philosophizing lazybones Kronblom in two films where he goes on a collision course with everything from Krångelsverige to his grater to his mother-in-law, Axel Bäckman's nimble inventor Påhittiga Johansson in the process of modernizing the hard-boiled egg, and Rit-Ola's Biffen and Bananen in three films competing on bicycle, on horseback and on foot. As if that weren't enough, fine people such as Gustaf V, Gustaf VI Adolf (both as crown prince and king) and Prince Bertil are also seen here. Five of the six films in this most royal box of ours are being released on DVD for the first time.

Kronblom (1947) Kronblom avoids any risk of getting carried away and the sofa bed is his favorite place. He spends most of his time in a horizontal position. By Hugo Bolander with Ludde Gentzel, Dagmar Ebbesen and Thor Modéen. + “In the world of speech bubbles: Elof Persson and his Kronblom” (from the TV archive).

Kronblom comes to town (1949) Kronblom builds a pigsty and goes on a collision course with all the building permit regulations of the Swedish state of Krångelsverige. By Hugo Bolander with Ludde Gentzel, Dagmar Ebbesen, Julia Caesar and Siegfried Fischer.

The Inventive Johansson (1950) The multi-talented artist PH Johansson invents the flat-footed egg that will make egg cups superfluous. By Hugo Bolander with Åke Grönberg, Rut Holm, Jan Molander and Julia Caesar. + Adamsson catches seals (1930), short film based on Oscar Jacobsson's cartoon character.

Biffen och Bananen (1951) Biffen eats meat and Bananen is a vegetarian – this, combined with certain differences in body size and comprehension, often causes controversy between them. By Rolf Husberg with Åke Grönberg, Åke Söderblom and Håkan Westergren. + “Premiere of the film Biffen och Bananen” (from SF-journalen).

Blondie, Biffen and Bananen (1952) Biffen and Bananen are grooms, but get fired. They then do everything they can to buy their cousin Blondie at auction to perform with her at Jägersro. By Lars-Eric Kjellgren with Åke Grönberg, Åke Söderblom and Håkan Westergren. + “In the world of speech bubbles: Rit-Ola, Biffen and Bananen” (from the TV archive).

Can Banana Beat Beef? (1957) Banana works for a banana wholesaler and Beef slaves for a meat merchant. Their two bosses make a bet on which of Beef and Banana can get from Stockholm to Gothenburg the fastest using the apostle horses. By Ragnar Frisk with Åke Grönberg, Åke Söderblom and Karl-Arne Holmsten.
