During a dusty stagecoach ride, deposed Sheriff Clayton and the other passengers are ambushed by gunmen looking for the murder accused Vermeer. Convinced that Vermeer is innocent, Clayton eliminates the men and teams up with him. Their hunt for the real killer and the powerful family that robbed Clayton of his sheriff's star sends the funeral homes into record-breaking business!
Lee van Cleef, the biggest spaghetti star after Clinton, plays one of his most memorable roles here. Giancarlo Santi, assistant director to Sergio Leone on The Good, the Bad and the Ugly and Once Upon a Time in the West, is responsible for directing, which is clearly visible in the film. Harder to understand is why this was his first and only western. The film's theme song, written by Oscar-winning Luis Bacalov, is undoubtedly one of the most famous in western history, reused by Quentin Tarantino in Kill Bill Vol 1.
