ON THE GUARDIAN'S TOP 20 SCI FI/FANTASY FILMS OF ALL TIME
RATING: 5 "VERY DARK, VERY FUNNY AND STRANGELY CAPTIVATING. A CULT CLASSIC!" Empire
For 20 years, the universe's most sleazy astronauts have been gliding around in space with a wacky alien mascot as their only company. Their job is to blow up politically unstable planets. A relatively pointless routine job that would drive any nerd crazy with boredom. And that's exactly what they're becoming! But even more worrying is that bomb no. 20 is starting to get the hang of it and believe he's God. A discovery that makes him want to explode with happiness - along with the entire spaceship!
John Carpenter's debut film was largely shot during his time at the California Film University. He wrote the script together with his school friend Dan O'Bannon (who also plays a major role) who later wrote huge successes such as Alien and Total Recall. The acclaimed cult film is now being released for the very first time on Blu-ray in Sweden!
BONUS MATERIAL * JOHN CARPENTER'S DIRECTOR'S CUT (71 min). In addition to the theatrical version (83 min), this Blu-ray also includes the director's own version. This is how he himself would have wanted the film to look. * LET THERE BE LIGHT: THE ODYSSEY OF DARK STAR. Documentary by Daniel Griffith from 2010 that follows the film's path from its creation to its current status as a cult film. Contains an older interview with John Carpenter as well as newly filmed material with, among others, actor Brian Narelle, cinematographer Douglas Knapp, production designer Tommy Lee Wallace, F/X artist Gregg Jein and the last interview with the late Dan O'Bannon
