"ENGAGING AND NAIL-BITING THRILLING" Eye for Film
When the Nazis invade France in 1940, the British are becoming increasingly desperate. A devastating German attack seems imminent. Churchill realizes that everyone must do their utmost to stop the enemy and orders the intelligence service to recruit women to become spies. Their mission is to go behind enemy lines in France to carry out sabotage and build a strong resistance movement. Among the brave women is the legendary Virginia Hall, who manages to cause so much havoc that the Gestapo calls her “the most dangerous of the Allied spies.”
The female heroes of CHURCHILL'S SPIES have been the subject of several books that have highlighted their importance in the outcome of the war, but this is the first feature film. Sarah Megan Thomas plays Virginia Hall and has also written and produced the screenplay. Oscar nominee Lydia Dean Pilcher is directing.
