THE FILMS FROM SWEDEN’S MOST NOTORIOUS VIDEO COMPANY
CANNIBAL FEROX SPECIAL EDITION * DIGITALLY RESTORED
During the barbaric heyday of film censorship in the early 1980s, Video Invest was Sweden’s boldest and most notorious video distributor. Their films were far more outrageous than anyone else’s, prompting police raids on video shops across Sweden. The 26 confiscated VHS titles were destroyed, and the company went bankrupt. Now the films are back! In their original uncut versions, digitally restored.
Three New York students venture into the Amazon to debunk the myth of cannibalism, only to become the unwilling guests of two wanted drug smugglers. The smugglers keep the Indigenous population in check through violence and murder, but before long, their victims begin to hunger for revenge, and human flesh!
Cannibal Ferox became the first Video Invest title to result in a conviction under Sweden’s then-new law against video violence. Alongside Cannibal Holocaust, it is one of the most notorious cannibal films ever made and was banned outright in several countries.
The film’s director, Umberto Lenzi, “invented” the cannibal genre in 1972 with Man from Deep River. On the menu are actors such as Giovanni Lombardo Radice (Cannibal Apocalypse) and Lenzi regular Robert Kerman, who also had major roles in Cannibal Holocaust and Lenzi’s Omänsklig fasa, but is best known as adult film star Richard Bolla.
