ABOUT THE ARTIST COUPLE PIERRE AND MARTHE BONNARD AND THE DIFFICULT ART OF LOVING

The film about the lives of the artist couple Pierre and Marthe Bonnard, BONNARD – ART AND LOVE , will have its Swedish cinema premiere on February 28 in conjunction with the opening of the exhibition BONNARD AND THE NORTH at the Nationalmuseum.

When the artist Pierre Bonnard, in his search for a new model, runs into Marthe, passion flares up at the first sitting. That first strong attraction grows into a love that lasts through the decades. Through ups and downs, despite excruciating jealousy and other crises, Pierre and Marthe stay together. Of all the artist's paintings, just over two-thirds are portraits of Marthe. A story of great art and the skyrocketing love that was its source.

Director Martin Provost has previously made other art-loving films, such as the multiple César winner Séraphine (2008), about the artist Séraphine de Senlis. He also portrayed the writer Violette Leduc in Violette (2014). In the colorful Bonnard – Art and Love, we follow the two main characters from the time they meet with impact in the years 1914, 1918 and 1942. Cécile de France and Vincent Macaigne are brilliant in their roles as the passionate artist couple.
