After his breakthrough with VIOLENT COP , Takeshi Kitano continued in his second film to depict a barren and violent social climate, far too dominated by the yakuza. Kitano himself plays a defected gangster who helps the young Masaki get to grips with weapons before the inevitable final battle. Just like in his debut film , BOILING POINT is full of both violence and Kitano's typical black humor, and created a buzz among filmmakers around the world that a new Japanese master director was on the way.

Fifteen years later, Takeshi Kitano is a filmmaker whose idiosyncratic directing style has earned him a host of international awards and whose cool persona on the silver screen is perhaps only matched by Clinton. With BOILING POINT , he was given total control over the production for the first time. The result is hard-boiled, humorous and extremely exciting!

"The world's most original action auteur." The Village Voice

"It's hard to defend yourself against Takeshi Kitano's everyday visions of hell." Bertil Palmqvist, Arbetet

"A blackness and social criticism that provokes bile fever in the Japanese establishment. An exotic film gem, worth seeing not least for Beat Takeshi himself when he appears as a raw-skinned gangster." Mats Johnson, Göteborgsposten

"If there is a film with cruel intentions, Takeshi Kitano is its master... utterly impossible to take your eyes off." Peter Stack, San Francisco Chronicle
