Volker Schlöndorff's THE TIN TUMMY became a huge success with audiences and critics in the late 1970s. Not only did it manage to win both the Palme d'Or in Cannes and an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, it also attracted a huge audience! In Sweden, it was seen by a whopping 191,000 cinemagoers, which is quite remarkable for a film that cannot be classified as light entertainment and is also not in Swedish or English.
THE TIN TUMMY is based on Nobel Prize winner Günter Grass's acclaimed novel and is about Oskar Matzerath, a little boy who, during World War II, protests against all evil by staying in the plant. When the film now returns on DVD and is released for the first time on Blu-ray, it is in a version that we Swedes have never seen before. The film has been restored and is presented in a new Director's Cut version that is 25 minutes longer than before!
