Dance Band Week

Dance Band Week gives us the whole story of the hugely popular event that draws dance lovers to Malung every year. Here we find out everything about what goes on before, during and after. How did this come about? We get to meet all the enthusiasts in Dalarna who make it possible to have an event with over 50,000 people in a small town. The visitors tell their stories about why they make the pilgrimage to Malung and the dance floors in Orrskogen year in and year out. Of course, we also meet some of the 82 dance bands that play during the event. The documentary also gives an insight into the big Guldklavengalan and the handmade prizes that are made well in advance. We also follow behind the scenes where a lot of fun things happen.

Director Matz Eklund has previously portrayed the dance band culture in Vill du dansa? , about and with the band Larz Kristerz. He has also made the film Dansbandstjejer , which portrays singers Sandra Estberg (Martinez), Erica Sjöström (Drifters) and Carolina Skaarup Lagerborg (Callinaz).

IN Dance Band Week Eklund focuses on Sweden's largest festival in the genre. The Swedish Dance Band Week draws musicians, music lovers, dancers and dance teachers to Malung in Dalarna for a couple of intense summer days every year. The festival is a cherished tradition in the town, where the Dance Band Week has been organized in its current form since the mid-1980s.
