Over a period of five years, filmmaker Tom Löwe ( Timescapes ) has traveled to every corner of the world to document the grandeur of the small and the details of the monumental. From a field in the Netherlands to the towering skyscrapers of Dubai and many places in between, his cameras capture nature and the passage of time, people at work, rest and play. A magnificent visual poem with powerful music by composer Joseph Trapanese.

Awaken is a direct descendant of the classic Koyaanisqatsi and consequently has its director Godfrey Reggio as executive producer. In that role we also find Terrence Malick. Löwe has worked with both before on films such as Visitors and Knight of Cups . Here we also get a mind-expanding cinematic experience that provokes thoughts about life, our relationship to technology, time and memory.

In addition to the obvious inspiration drawn from the film's production duo, Löwe has also mentioned filmmakers Wong Kar-wai, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Edward Yang, Christopher Doyle, Lee Ping-bing, Hayao Miyazaki, and Kenji Mizoguchi during interviews as being significant to the tone and pace of Awaken .

Löwe's film puts visual expression first. To ensure that the many fantastic images captured with the latest camera technology have a chance to do justice, we offer DCPs in both 4K and 2K to cinemas, depending on available equipment.
