All We Imagine As Light

Romantic everyday drama with otherworldly beautiful snapshots about nurses in Mumbai and their love relationships. The film depicts in a low-key and intimate way a close friendship between two women. How they try to settle in and find a way to live on their own terms in the hectic metropolis of Mumbai. A trip to a coastal village gives the two women breathing space and an opportunity to realize their desires in life. People and environments are rendered with sublime photography in a blue color scale during the monsoon rainy season and red tones during the dry season.

All We Imagine As Light has been critically acclaimed and screened at numerous festivals around the world. It won the Grand Prix du Jury at Cannes, the festival's second prize after the Palme d'Or, and was nominated for the Golden Globe for Best Director and Best Foreign Language Film. The American National Society for Film Critics awarded All We Imagine As Light with the award for best foreign film.

Director and screenwriter Payal Kapadia has previously made similarly award-winning and acclaimed documentaries A Night of Knowing Nothing , about student life in her native India, which in 2021 received the Golden Eye award at the Cannes Film Festival.
